Sunday January 9, 2011
10am – 5pm , Edmonton, AB
Saturday January 29, 2011
10am – 4pm , Toronto, ON
I’m teaching 2 workshops for professional or advanced amateur photographers in January 2011.
What do I mean by advanced amateur? It means you own an SLR or DSLR camera, a lens or two, and you know how to use your camera on manual (or would really like to learn how to.)
It also means you’re crazy about photography and want to learn, learn, learn!
I’ve been shooting weddings for 10 years now, since I was a wee kipper, it seems! I’ve seen how significantly the industry has changed over the last few years, and what very important things have stayed the same. I can tell you what is essential to succeed in doing something you truly love – making a living from that camera in your hand!
I’ll be focusing on the subject matter I focus on in my own work: couples and weddings. I’m pretty atypical in the wedding industry, I think! Not that I’m a crazy maverick, but I’m definitely different than your average wedding photographer. I worked for years in marketing and media, so I bring that exeperience to the table also.
Some topics I’ll talk about will be as follows:
– staying relevant and true to your own vision as a photographer
– making your work stand out in an over-saturated market
– finding your niche market
– branding – what does that even mean to a wedding photographer?
– pricing yourself fairly
– workflow
– how to get your work published (and noticed online!)
– off-camera lighting
– SEO (search engine optimization) tips from an awesome guest speaker (Edmonton only)
– Any other cool stuff you might want to know (Q&A)
The cost for the workshop is $400, and this includes lunch, and coffee and snacks.
For the Edmonton Workshop, we’ll be at the Bennett Center, which is an extremely cool spot a few blocks from the Muttart Conservatory. Deadline for enrollment is DECEMBER 20, 2010. Space is limited, so if you’re interested, please email wrkshp@buffygoodman.com
and I’ll send you more info!
For the Toronto workshop, we’ll be at Studio Kaizen (downtown Toronto). Deadline for enrollment is JANUARY 15, 2011. Email info@lookbookfactory.com to enroll! (And it’s $50 cheaper down there!)
(This is a super good Christmas present for that camera-happy person on your gift list!)
Hooray!
