I learned a new word this month! Microwedding!
I know it kinda sounds like I’m mispronouncing the word “microwave,” but a microwedding is a real thing! It’s for couples who want to focus on the important people and details – it might be difficult to throw the same rad party for 200 guests, but, heck yes, you can really do it up fancy for a guestlist of under 50 people, even if that small guestlist is because of COVID!
Turns out that my own wedding, 6 years ago tomorrow (wow, time flies) was a microwedding, and I’m so grateful for that quality time with each and every one of our guests! I am a huge fan of this new trend and terminology, even though it was brought on by a pandemic. Find those silver linings, people!
Shani and Duane’s microwedding was held at the gorgeous Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, and their guests had the legendary Hotel Mac High Tea service after. It was gorgeous and classy as heck, and the love in the room for these two was unreal. I am super happy I got to witness this awesome day, and I know these two will be extra happy together! Here are some more faves from this gorgeous microwedding at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald.
In closing, I want to mention that I was really impressed by the Hotel Macdonald’s protocols for COVID – when I walked in, the concierge was there to greet me right away, scan my temperature, and offer me hand sanitizer and a mask. The food was wrapped individually for each guest, the platewear wasn’t sitting out on the table until we ate, the teacups were covered, and each person’s plate arrived individually wrapped. All the servers and employees wore gloves and masks. I felt very safe.
I loved this wedding and I am excited about shooting more weddings like this in 2020 and beyond! Small weddings are awesome for so many reasons – they’re also less costly, you can splurge on the things you love and skip the things you don’t! Hip hip hooray for microweddings!
